Tata Motors is an Indian automotive manufacturer headquartered in Mumbai and owned by Tata Group, a conglomerate involved in steel, hospitality, telecommunications, and more. Here’s how Jaguar fits into the picture:

Jaguar began in 1922 in Blackpool, England, founded by William Lyons and William Walmsley as the Swallow Sidecar Company. It was later renamed S.S. Cars Limited. In 1935, the SS Jaguar sports saloon and SS Jaguar 100 were released. Here’s how Jaguar evolved into today's luxury brand:

  • 1965: Jaguar became part of British Motor Holdings Limited.
  • Later merged with Leyland Motor Corporation to become British Leyland Motor Corporation.
  • 1975: British Leyland was nationalized; Jaguar regained independence in 1984.
  • 1999: Ford Motors acquired Jaguar, later adding Land Rover in 2000.
  • 2008: Ford sold both Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors.
